WATER RETENTION

Cisterns or storage tanks collect rain water from the roof via the gutter system. This water can be used for watering gardens or lawns, toilets or washing clothes. With a more sophisticated filtering system, this water can be used for consumption. Another water-conserving system is gray water reclamation. This refers to any water, except toilet water, within the home that has already been used once, such as shower or sink water can be stored in the toilet tank for later flushing.

GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

Using the earth to heat and cool homes has been used for thousands of years. It is a simple concept to draw cooler or warmer air from underground. In winter, a geothermal heat pump collects the Earth's natural heat through a series of pipes, called a loop, installed below the surface of the ground. Fluid circulates through the loop and carries the heat to the house. In summer, the process is reversed. The underground loop draws excess heat from the house and allows it to be absorbed by the Earth.    

FOAM INSULATION

Spray foam insulation replaces traditional fiberglass rolled into the walls or blown in the attic. The advantages are numerous by keeping out dust and pollen adds strength to the building, stops moisture filtration (mold growth) along with stopping air infiltration leading to high energy costs for cooling and heating.
